Take Charge Fitness Program celebrates CPTC's 22 years with membership special during August

July 28, 2010

On July 18, Clinton Physical Therapy Center marked their twenty-second year in business. Take Charge Fitness Program is an important part of CPTC. This article focuses on TCFP and its role in helping to keep Anderson County residents physically fit. It includes the announcement of a membership special for those joining TCFP during the month of August.

In 2008, the Department of Health and Human Services launched the first-ever Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. The United States has an obesity epidemic. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, adult obesity rates have doubled since 1980(from 15% to 30%). In addition, childhood obesity rates have tripled since 1980(from 6.5% to 16.3%). Obesity and physical inactivity in America are negatively impacting the economy and even worse are putting people’s lives at risk.

The Physical Activity Guidelines are a comprehensive resource, based on scientific studies, that provides guidance on the importance of physical activity in preventing disease and improving overall health for Americans. HHS Secretary, Mike Leavitt stated: “The evidence is clear…regular physical activity over months and years produces long-term health benefits and reduces the risk of many diseases. The more physically active you are, the more health benefits you gain.” The Guidelines offer specific suggestions of types, and duration of physical activity for adults, children, adolescents, and people with disabilities and chronic diseases. They are applicable to people at any fitness level and can be personalized to achieve a variety of health and fitness goals.

Take Charge Fitness Program in Clinton, is excited about the first-ever Physical Activity Guidelines and the entire staff believe they represent a positive step forward in the fight against obesity. The guidelines provide an opportunity for Take Charge Fitness to facilitate change in the epidemic of obesity and physical inactivity by providing the best environment to exercise.

Take Charge Fitness is located at 1921 N. Charles Seivers Blvd. just West of the I-75 Clinton/Norris exit. The18,000 square foot facility includes many different exercise options that include: cardiovascular machines, strength equipment that includes both machines and free weights, a specialized STRIVE circuit training area, dedicated Yoga studio, dedicated Pilates studio for Mat and Reformer classes, a large group exercise studio that is the home for several different class formats, an indoor walking track, and two heated pools. The various different programs at Take Charge Fitness allow all individuals a variety of choices to increase their physical activity.

In addition to the beautiful facility, the staff members are all certified fitness professionals by credible fitness certifying agencies that include ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association), AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America), and are all CPR certified.

Take Charge Fitness Program has also partnered with the nationally recognized Healthways SilverSneakers® Fitness Program.
