UT-Battelle has presented $10,000 to Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC) to help the local organization provide housing for families in need.

UT-Battelle, which manages Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the Department of Energy, is also the first corporation to help ADFAC mark 25 years of service to the community in 2012.

"In recognition of their 25 years of invaluable support to the citizens of our community with some of the greatest needs, UT-Battelle is honored to help ADFAC accomplish their goals in the coming year," said Leigha Edwards, UT Battelle's Protocol and Community Outreach Manager.

In addition to monetarily supporting ADFAC this year, Team UT-Battelle will help coordinate skilled volunteer labor for an ADFAC home to be constructed this spring.

"This is a very exciting venture for ADFAC's Affordable Housing Program," said Cindy Ross, director of the ADFAC Affordable Housing Program. "We are very eager to get started on helping a family in our community."

ADFAC, a local, nonprofit and United Way partner agency, strives to help impoverished families become stable and self-sufficient through direct assistance and educational services. Through the years, ADFAC has responded to more than 60,000 requests for assistance. ADFAC will host several activities during the coming year to celebrate its quarter-century of service.

For additional information about ADFAC or sponsoring the 25th Celebration, contact Executive Director Annie Cacheiro, at adfacannie@bellsouth.net or 865-483-6028, ext. 114.
